Stoke City eye Swedish forward as an Attacking alternative if Cannon leaves
Alex Timossi Andersson, a forward for IF Brommapojkarna, is reportedly a target for Stoke City, as newly hired manager Mark Robins looks to expand his attacking options this month.
The 23-year-old Andersson, who was once a young player for Bayern Munich, currently plays for Stockholm-based Brommapojkarna in the Allsvenskan.
Only since August 2023 has he been with the Swedish team; he had only moved to the Dutch team Heerenveen a year earlier.
Although Andersson’s primary position is winger, he can play a variety of midfield and attacking positions. With star winger Million Manhoef sidelined until at least March due to injury, Robins’ current depth in the final third is severely lacking, so Stoke is looking to add attacking players this month.
Stoke has been linked to Alex Timossi Andersson.
In order to increase their depth in a variety of positions, Stoke hopes to sign Timossi Andersson during the January transfer window, according to Swedish news source Expressen.
According to the report, their sources are not sure if a bid has been made for his services, but the Potters are reportedly interested in the player. As the early February deadline approaches, it will be clear in the coming week or two whether a deal will be reached.
For new manager Robins, Stoke’s attacking options are, to put it mildly, not ideal, especially after Leicester City called up star striker Tom Cannon from his loan earlier this week.
Andersson played in five different positions in the Swedish top division last season, according to Transfermarkt. He was used as a center-forward, left-winger, central midfielder, and even a holding midfielder. His most common position was right-winger.
The Potters will undoubtedly like his versatility because they believe he has what it takes to succeed in the Championship. His ability to play both in attack and across the midfield could be crucial to their chances of avoiding relegation this season.
Timossi Andersson has a lot of experience for his age
Even though he is only 23 years old and has already joined six clubs in his brief career, Andersson is accustomed to moving abroad, which may appeal to Stoke as they look for quick solutions to their squad depth problems.
He began his career as a youth player at the local team Helsingborgs IF, making multiple appearances for their first team before joining Bayern Munich’s academy at the age of 17.
Before returning on loan to Helsingborgs in 2020, Andersson played for Bayern’s under-19 team for a while. In his one and only season back at his boyhood club, he made his Allsvenskan debut with five goals and two assists in 28 games.
Following a stint on loan at Austria Klagenfurt, where he assisted the team in winning promotion to the top division, he enjoyed a successful stint in the Austrian Bundesliga before permanently leaving Bayern to join Heerenveen of the Eredivisie in 2022.
Andersson signed a four-year contract with the Dutch team, but he struggled to establish himself in their starting lineup and only made 12 appearances in the 2022–2023 season. As a result, he returned to his home country of Sweden to play for Brommapojkarna of the Allsvenskan last summer.
Due to his outstanding performances in Sweden, he is reportedly on the Potters’ radar after scoring four goals and dishing out one assist for Brommapojkarna in the 2024 season.
Although it is unclear if a deal will be reached to bring him to English football for the first time in his career, Stoke would undoubtedly benefit from the addition as they need to get players out of the door as quickly as possible this month.
